US regulators investigating Volkswagen have uncovered excessive emissions levels in thousands of luxury Porsches and Audis, extending their probe to diesel sports utility vehicles the German carmaker had not previously admitted were caught up in the scandal.
The Environmental Protection Agency said tests on a series of vehicles with 3L engines — including the 2014 model year VW Touareg, 2015 Porsche Cayenne and 2016 Audi A6 Quattro — showed nitrogen oxide emissions up to nine times permitted levels.
